Broadcast Microphones

  • Shure

The SM7B dynamic microphone has a smooth, flat, wide-range frequency response appropriate for music and speech in all professional audio applications. It features excellent shielding against electromagnetic hum generated by computer monitors, neon lights, and other electrical devices.
  • Neumann

With its large-diaphragm condenser capsule and cardioid directional characteristic, the BCM 104 is ideal for the faithful reproduction of speech and music. This is due, for instance, to the frequency response that is flat up to 3 kHz and then gradually boosted in the higher frequencies. The BCM 705 is Neumann’s first dynamic microphone. The housing and headgrille are identical to those of the BCM 104. The difference can be seen in the dynamic capsule with a hypercardioid directional characteristic, specifically designed for speech reproduction at close range.
  • Audio-Technica

Audio-Technica offers a multitude of microphones designed for both music and broadcast. Please click on their website to check out their line. *Tip: type "broadcast" in their search window and you will find a list of mics with many designed for broadcast.
  • Earthworks

Earthworks Flex Series microphones offer exceptional intelligibility and sound quality. Their patented pick-up pattern allows an orator to move up to 90 degrees off-axis and still be heard with exceptional intelligibility and sound quality. This is a real advantage for church, civic and corporate podium speech applications. As an added plus, the Flex Mics smooth off-axis response will provide more gain before feedback. The flexible neck allows adjustment of microphone positioning with no handling noise.
  • Schoeps

The MK 4S/ CCM 4S is used primarily in voiceover and sound reinforcement applications, and wherever good speech audibility in a noisy environment is a prime requirement. This microphone is suited for the recording of music in exceptional cases only. When it is used at a distance of ca. 10 cm flat frequency response can be obtained. Schoeps offers other options for broadcast as well.
  • Rode

Rode offers four models of microphones designed for broadcast/AV. Models include the podcaster, the ntg-1 and ntg-2 (two varieties of shotgun mics), and the VideoMic and Stereo VideoMic (two mics designed for use with high quality video cameras).
  • Coles

The 4115 Broadcaster’s Noise Canceling Ribbon Microphone is used for close indoor talking situations where good quality broadcasting and public address announcement speech is required to be reproduced in conditions with high background noise present.

  • Electro-Voice

The RE20 is the industry standard dynamic cardioid microphone and is a favorite among broadcasters and sound engineers worldwide. The Variable-D® design and heavy-duty, internal P-pop filter reduces proximity effect while the internal element shock mount reduces vibration-induced noise. It comes with a bass roll-off switch.
  • Sennheiser

The MD421 II continues the tradition of the MD 421 which has been one of Sennheiser's most popular dynamic mics for over 35 years. The MD 421's full-bodied cardioid pattern, and five-position bass control make it an excellent choice for radio broadcast announcers.
  • Heil Sound

The Heil PR 30 represents completely new dynamic microphone technology designed for a wide range of professional applications such as commercial broadcast. Its smooth, wide frequency range sounds like a ribbon.
  • AKG

The C 4500 B-BC meets the strictest requirements of digital audio with its ultra-low 8 dB-A self-noise and 145 / 165 dB maximum SPL capability. Its end-address format and its unique acoustical design allow the microphone to be used comfortably for on-air broadcast work.
  • Beyer Dynamic

The M 99 is a dynamic moving coil microphone of studio quality. The tailored frequency response suits many applications from instrument miking to on-air broadcasting.
  • Blue Microphones

As a dynamic mic, the Ball is capable of handling extremely high sound pressure levels without distortion, making it the ideal choice for studio, stage, broadcast, film or any other applications where reliability, versatility and the utmost sound quality is required. The Snowball is a direct plug n’ play mic that connects to either a Mac or PC – no additional software is needed. It's ideal for pod-casting.
