The Really Nice Pre-amp, the RNP, is a 1/3 rack two channel mic pre-amp. FMR's objectives for this pre-amp were relatively neutral sonics, a really nice price, and compatibility with the RNC/RNLA (really nice compressor/really nice leveling amplifier).

The John Hardy Company manufactures several different models of stand alone microphone preamplifiers, replacement mic preamps for third party mixing consoles and discrete op-amp modules.

The MDP-1 is a modern two channel vacuum tube Mic/DI preamp designed to be the ultimate way to get your mic or source directly to tape or hard disk. Unlike vintage or hybrid designs, the MDP-1 uses a pure tube, class A high voltage circuit topology with a transformerless output stage to deliver an open, intimate sound with a level of detail that meets the requirements of the most demanding recording applications. Our short signal path design excels in audio performance, delivering extremely wide bandwidth, low noise, and high headroom.

The Portico 5012 is a dual channel mic pre featuring Neve’s custom input and output transformer designs. In addition to individually selectable phase, mute, phantom power and a fully sweepable high pass filter, the 5012 incorporates a “Silk” circuit which yields the rich warmth and presence of the renowned classic designs. The Portico 5016 is a half rack, 1U module that embodies a Microphone Preamplifier and a DI, which can be used separately or together to provide an innovative and powerful approach to the recording of musical instruments.

The VMP Series of preamplifiers from Sebatron is aimed at filling in the gap between ‘transparent’ amplification and ‘coloured’ or character preamplifiers. They can be driven lightly for pure, almost transparent sounds with just an edge of true valve tone or slammed into thick distortion, with a spectrum of colours available in between.

The Earlybird 1.2 is a two channel mic pre-amp employing a balanced push-pull all valve circuit, which is unique in this application. The use of this type of circuit gives seriously low noise, plenty of headroom and means a very natural interpretation of whatever sound the microphone is picking up, whether the mic is valve dynamic or FET. The Earlybird 2.2 is a two channel all valve pre-amp with EQ.

The AFC-2 offers two independent channels each with switchable mic/line input, selectable +48 volt phantom power and instrument input. Input phase reverse operating on both mic and line inputs on each channel.Extremely musical four band sweep equalization ranging from 40Hz to 15kHz in overlapping ranges.

The DMPmk2 is an all class-A, dual-channel microphone preamp, each channel featuring dual preamp stages and a transformer balanced, single-ended output stage. The second preamp stage is switched in only at higher gain settings to avoid extra noise. The impedance of the microphone inputs is switchable between 300 or 1200 ohms.

More than a pre-amp, the AP-2 is a dual channel "platform" offering ultra-flexibility. Match the "color" of the mic and the "color" of the source-material without usind EQ.

The Model 7622 Dual Microphone Preamplifier is based on designs that have stood the test of time and has been built with the budget conscious in mind. This unit is made with 100% discrete components, hand wound transformers and was fabricated to precisely match vintage counterparts manufactured in the early to mid 70’s. It has been designed to complement the Model 7602 Preamplifier / Equalizer for those who desire two channels of preamplification in the same size chassis, but do not need external equalization.

retains a hybrid solid state and tube construction to combine the best of both worlds. The transistor stage is composed of single transistors in a class A design. The circuitry is fully discrete, and each transistor is completely optimized for its specific task. You will not find any IC’s in this preamplifier stage because they cannot be optimized for this specific application to the degree we aimed for. This all new discrete class A transistor stage is a genuine innovation in the entire preamplifier market at this price level.

The RB-MA2 consists of two independent low-noise microphone pre-amplifiers for converting mic level signals to line level, or for driving long lines from microphones to mixing equipment. The RB-DMA2 consists of two independent low-noise microphone pre-amplifiers for converting microphone level signals to a digital AES/EBU or S/PDIF output. Individual analogue balanced line level outputs are also produced for use, for example, to feed talkback systems. The unit can either be used as two independent microphone amplifiers, or one mic input can be copied to both channels of the digital output.

In order to capture the most accurate uncolored reproduction of an acoustic source, a microphone preamplifier must exhibit low distortion, wide frequency response and low noise. The preamplifier must also be capable of reproducing transient information without slew rate limiting and present a non-reactive load to the microphone itself. Combining eight active tube stages and the low noise and reliability of solid state electronics, the Drawmer 1960 provides the ultimate direct interface between the sound source and the recording medium. The Drawmer 1960 is a two channel unit with each channel comprised of a completely natural sounding "soft knee" vacuum tube compressor and an extremely low noise microphone pre-amplifier with switchable 48 volt phantom power.

The Joemeek twinQ uses high quality Burr-Brown IC's for the preamp, with an added EQ section and an optical compressor for that signature "Meek" sound. Also included are some new and innovative features, like an "Iron" switch that switches the IC front end to a transformer - completely changing the topology of the circuit. It even has 24bit, 96k A/D converters built in.

The DACS Clarity mic preamp is a 2 channel discrete component based microphone amplifier with ultra low noise and ultra low distortion. Transparent sound gain settings in 6dB steps, from +20dB to +62dB, with a 0dB to 10dB trim control make precise gain control a breeze.

The DRS-2 Mic-Pre/DI uses a Class A output stage and transformerless Class A, discrete mic input technology which gives a "valve-like" sound. It also incorporates a high input impedance DI circuitry.
