UK Acoustic Guitar Luthiers

NK Forster offers eight models of acoustic guitar, plus experimental models, a bouzouki and mandolins built in the UK. The Model "A" is a parlor style. The Model "C" has a 12, 13 or 14 fret option, the Model "D" is a dreadnought, and the Model "J" is designed with DADGAD in mind. The Model "S" is a more affordable acoustic model. The Model "F" is roughly the same size as a Martin 0-18.

Benjamin Guitars makes a variety of acoustic guitar models, including a Jumbo, Baritone models, a Treble-O 12 fret, a Double-O 14 fret, a Jumbo Orchestra model, Classical nylon string models, an OM acoustic, high tuned Terz instruments, and custom builds. Options include pick-ups for acoustic electric players, 12 string models, many wood choices, cutaways, etc.

Richard Meyrick builds hand crafted acoustic guitars in the UK. He offers four models to choose from; the Manorbier Archtop, the Oxwich Parlor guitar, the Cilgerran 000 size, and the Carningli dreadnaught model. The necks on all of Richard's models feature a bolt-on neck for easy removal in case of damage. The Oxwich parlor is based on a late 19th centruy design by Lyon & Healy. The Cilgerran 000 is based on a 1920's Martin 000. The Carningli is a 14 fret Martin dreadnaught design.

Stefan Sobell spent many years building archtop guitars and citterns, building his first flattop instrument in the 80's. Stefan's acoustic models are unusual in that the soundboards are slightly curved. Also, the neck continues into the body rather than being glued or bolted onto it. He usually has three or four acoustic guitars under construction at any time, each at a different stage.

Brook Guitars handcrafts fine acoustic instruments in the UK. Models offered include OO, OM with a 12 string option, medium size Jumbo with a 12 string option, Jumbo, Super Jumbo, Dreadnaught, Parlor 12 fret guitar with slotted headstock, OO designed for fingerpickers, two travel models, a double cutaway rock-n-roll style acoustic, an acoustic bass, and an archtop model for jazz players.

Stephen Sedgwick makes fine acoustic steel string and classical nylon string guitars in the UK. Stephen specializes in harp guitars. Unique instruments offered include a double neck guitar and mandolin, a "Talking Board Guitar", and a Pythagoras Guitar. Standard models come in concert, dreadnought, jumbo and standard sizes. Mandolins come in 12 string models.

Northworthy offers over 10 acoustic guitar models to choose from, all built in the UK. Models include one guitar that is a slightly smaller in size than a classical guitar, another model slightly larger across the lower bout and a little longer in the body, a traditional dreadnought body, a dreadnought style with a unique body shape, and a 000 design. Left handed versions of all instruments are available at no extra cost. A variety of pickup systems are also available for acoustic electric needs.

Arum Devereux, of Accousti Guitars in the UK, hand builds fine acoustic instruments. One example is a Flamed Maple 6 string guitar with a Spruce top. This model is based on the Gibson Jumbo but is slightly smaller and thinner. An example of a 12 string instrument is one Arum made of Marbled Ebony and spruce. This is also based on the same Gibson model as the first example.

Kif makes a range of guitars that include acoustic 6 string, semi acoustic 12 string and acoustic bass models. The 12 string and bass use a 2.7mm laminate top. The 6 string model uses Sitka spruce from Canada. Western red cedar and Alaskan cypress are an option when choosing soundboard woods. All instruments are fitted with twin Piezo contact pickups bonded inside the guitar under the bridge plate for acoustic electric needs.

Oakwood Instruments offers a variety of acoustic instruments, including an OM-18 Martin copy, a medium bodied guitar designed for fingerstyle players, a larger body guitar for projection and power, an acoustic bass, and a Maccaferri style gypsy jazz inspired model. Custom acoustic one-offs are always available for ordering. Oakwood also builds mandolins, banjos, bouzoukis, citterns, dulcimers and more.

Jonny Kinkead builds fine acoustic instruments, including an old Martin OM size with either mahogany or rosewood back/sides, an old Gibson J200 jumbo size with a maple body, a dreadnought, a model ‘P’ radical non-traditional shape for customers who are looking for something different, a parlor size, a ‘Braque’ acoustic guitar and an acoustic bass. Left handed instruments are available as well.

Robin Greenwood offers a variety of acoustic instruments, including a Jumbo acoustic 6 string guitar with a Spruce top and Rosewood back/sides, a 12 string acoustic electric, bouzoukis, mandolins and hammered dulcimers. Robin also builds a "mandolin bass" loosely based on an early 20th century design. It is played in an upright position.

Paul Hathaway builds acoustic instruments of his own design in East London. They are not copies of any factory built instruments. Paul offers parlor size acoustic guitars and larger models as well. He even builds a Maccaferri style gypsy guitar he calls the "G-Mac". Other offerings include bouzoukis, english guitars, lutes, mandocellos, mandolins, medieval fiddles, tenor mandolas and 12 string citterns.

Christopher J. Eccleshall is a maker and dealer of acoustic guitars, violins, mandolins, banjos and dulcimers, all handcrafted to your specifications in the UK. Acoustic models offered include a Classical nylon string, a "C" model classical built for steel strings, a square shouldered Dreadnaught acoustic, a large figure-8 body style, and a Maccaferri gypsy style guitar. 12 string models are available as well.

Rob Aylward builds flattop folk type acoustic guitars in the UK to the musicians specifications. He also builds acoustic archtop and classical nylon string guitar models as well. Rob is particularly noted for his Selmer style gypsy instruments.

Alan Arnold offers a standard range of acoustic guitars from small bodied 12 fret through baritone models. Concert and Jumbo size acoustic instruments are available, as well as a resonator and a dobro style.

Mark Bailey handcrafts traditional style acoustic guitar models in the UK. Optional Fishman pick-up systems are availabe to turn any guitar into an acoustic electric. Amongst the models Mark offers is a 12 fret, a parlor, cutaway styles, and a custom acoustic that is based on a Bazouki crossed with a Macaferi gypsy style.

Matthew John Bascetta builds hand-made acoustic instruments, including steel string and classical nylon string guitars, mandolins, dulcimers, banjos and more. All of his steel string flattop acoustic guitar models are custom designed, the most popular styles being the Martin OM and OOO.

Martin Cole guitars offers seven different acoustic models, including a 12 fret parlor style, a model for finger style ragtime guitarists, a steel string version of a classical, a Martin style Dreadnaught for flat pickers, an acoustic model that is slightly wider than a Dreadnaught, Classical nylon string instruments, and a Classical Jazz guitar.

Mr. Enderkue hand builds one model of acoustic guitar called the "Melsasoom" which can be built with any choice of woods and modified slightly to fit your personal needs. He can also build custom acoustic guitars, both Classical nylon string and steel string.

Phil Davidson has been an acoustic guitar and instrument builder for over 25 years in the UK. He offers two styles of acoustic guitars with custom options, the OM/OOO model and the Kona Hawaiian model. Phil also builds mandolins, banjos and ukuleles.

Bill Dinsdale uses a variety of tonewoods in building his acoustic guitar models in the UK. Woods are chosen to suit the player. Bill handcrafts a OO, OOO, a larger bodied acoustic guitar called the Bluebird model, and a cutaway model. All models are fitted with the Schertler Bluestick system, making them acoustic electric.

Fylde offers over a dozen models of acoustic guitar, including an acoustic bass, mandolins, mandolas, bouzoukis, citterns, and pickups for acoustic electric needs. From parlor size to tenor guitars Fylde covers it all. Classical nylon string instruments are available as well. The "Falstaff" model has a longer scale suited to dropped tunings.

Dave Gregory hand crafts instruments of fine quality in the UK. His lineup includes acoustic guitar models, acoustic basses, classical nylon string instruments, all mandolin types and electric guitars as well. Dave offers parlor size up to much larger body styles.

Derek Halliday is a guitar luthier specializing in hand built acoustic instruments. All models are made of the finest woods and are unique in design. Left handed or cutaway styles are available as well.
